Profile: Gideon Bendicion

Gideon Bendicion is a founding board director of the Philippine Choral Directors Association (PCDA), a non-profit organization that seeks to address the needs of the nation’s choral conductors. With the PCDA, he organized several national summits and workshops for choral music. He also formed ANIMA, a choral think-tank that explores new expressions for choral music. In 2009, ANIMA won a gold medal and third prize in the 1st CCP National Choral Competitions. Gideon founded the Genesis of Hope Community Chorus, a community-based choir that provides college scholarships for its members. Gideon was the former assistant conductor of the Ateneo de Manila College Glee Club (ACGC). During his tenure, the ACGC won competitions in Miltenberg, Germany, where they won all possible prizes, and in Arezzo, Italy, where they were a finalist for the grand prize. He has represented the Philippines in the World Youth Choir and the International Forum for Youth, Arts, and Management. As a composer, he wrote the musical score for the first original Filipino animated feature film, Kwentong Kayumanggi. His songs for worship services and retreats are sung by Evangelical churches all over the Philippines. His composition, Benediction, has been in the regular and touring repertoire of the Ateneo de Manila College Glee Club since 2006.
