Profile: Liza Stepanova

Praised by the distinguished German Süddeutsche Zeitung for her "Tastenzauberei" ("magic on the keys"), pianist Liza Stepanova debuted at the age of 11 on stage of the main Philharmonic Hall of her native Belarus. Liza earned her master of music degree in piano performance from The Juilliard School in New York City. In 2005 she premiered a new chamber arrangement of Chopin's complete works for piano and orchestra with the orchestra part performed by the Mozart Quartet Berlin. These projects culminated in a 15-concert tour in the summer of 2007, including performances at the Schlosskonzerte Festival in Salzburg, Austria and other concerts in Berlin, Hamburg, Bamberg and Muenchen, and earned her critical acclaim in the German and Austrian media. Two of the concerts were fully broadcast together with an interview on Hamburg's Via Classica radio station. Most recently the first prize winner in the 2008 Young Musician Competition of the 5 Towns Music and Art Foundation, Liza is a top prizewinner of the Steinway Piano Competition in Berlin and the All-German Jugend Musiziert competition series, where she won several first prizes for solo and chamber music as well as the Berlin Klassikpreis. She received the Haydn Prize at the 6th International Competition for Young Pianists in Ettlingen, Germany, a special award at the 1st Renate Schorler Piano Competition and a second place in Juilliard's 2007 Mozart Concerto Competition.
